Cicakman - glitch in facts?

Our latest local movie offering seems to be Cicakman a local attempt at a superhero movie with a touch of typical local style humour.

When I first saw the trailer on tv I thought it must be some joke. I don't know if anyone has spent enough time on RTM to remember a spastic 2D cartoon called "Keluang Man"? Surprise surprise - local batman! Anyway, I thought "Cicakman" was a joke movie.

Next thing I know, I open up the papers today and there on the cover of Star Two is a whole article dedicated to this movie. So its an actual movie? People actually paid to produce it? People are going to pay to watch it in cinemas??

The curious part is why Cicak (gecko)?

Was it because "Labah-Labah Man" is too much of a mouthful? Or was it the similarity in the way both spiders and geckos can climb walls and stick to vertical surfaces without looking like there was obvious copying? What about the unique ability of geckos to drop their tail and re-grow a new one? Does Cicakman drop his leg to distract his enemies and then grow a new one? Cicak-mah!

However, what really bugged me is this little niggling point:-

The one thing that gave her a headache, however, was the fact that she had to wear winter clothing while filming in Putrajaya!

“The film is set in a fictional city where the weather is cold so we were all wearing clothes to suit that. It was hard at times – because only God knows how hot it was – but it was well worth it. Having seen the completed film, I am so proud to be a part of it.”

Quote of Fasha Sandha (actress) from The Star

FACT: Geckos/Lizards are reptiles.

FACT: Reptiles are cold-blooded animals.

FACT: Lizards are usually found in warm countries and rarely in cold countries. If found in cold countries, they are only active in warm months, and hibernate in cold months. See this factfile about lizards.

So my question is this:-

If this fictional city is a cold wintry place, how did Cicakman summon up enough energy to move around when he should be hibernating?

If Cicakman was true to the nature of the "radioactive gecko" that bit him, he would have immediately curled up in a burrow somewhere warm to sleep away the winter. He would not have any energy to jump around and kick ass. He would be lethargic. Its the nature of reptiles and lizards!

Also, I did not understand why a local production would want to base its story in a fictitional COLD WEATHER city, when its always nice and sunny here in Malaysia and it would be so much easier to film in a nice sunny environment! And a lot more believable to boot!

A+ for effort.

F- for factual basis.

This cicakman got scales or not? LOL! Anyway, I wonder why they want to glamourise the cicak? Better use something like harimau man or something la...since Malaysia is always associated with harimau.

But good observations you made. I was pretty amused!

Probably because it was a radioactive gecko, so all the warmth were coming from the radioactivity.

Anyway, casting a joker to be the hero sums up the entire movie. Its a joke.

It just a comedy superhero,so why take it seriously? If you observe carefully in Hollywood comedy also away from fact!
Why bother about fact,if they make the movie for people to laugh... Are there
full of true facts in comedy such as
Kungfu Hustle, Little Man ect?? Even the serous movie also lack of true facts... if you observe 'more' carefully...

I think they choose cicak because it suit the superhero that can climb (stick to) the wall.. use his sticky tounge... so the story become more interesting than a superhero that just can chase and jump (harimau) or bite and hit bad people with his tail (buaya)...

Also if you observe carefully, the Monster was illogical. Also if you observe the Xmen carefully why choose sliver when he will melt in summer or the flames when it is winter in US?

You are a dumb Malaysian, if you observe carefully.
